I'm sorry to say don't get your hopes up that anything will happen overnight. I'm also contacting other programs in the mean time. I'm just trying to save as much as I can as quickly as I can so I can move myself out. I'm still working, albeit underemployed because of a lack of a stable home environment that's exacerbating my conditions. Once I receive and submit it, I was told that it could still take weeks if not months for a review and decision. I haven't even received the housing voucher application yet. I was hoping that the second stimulus would have happened by now because that would have helped me move out on my own since I can't do a shelter with my specific health conditions and there are wait lists with those too. I was told it would be fast-tracked, but that was two weeks ago. In August, I was finally told by a local center for independence rep that they could put in a referral for a mainstream non-elderly disabled housing voucher because I'm experiencing both abuse and risk of homelessness. Programs for people dealing with abuse, especially women, are often funded only for women who have children or who are in intimate partner violence situations, which doesn't apply to my situation. There are still small pots of vouchers for unique situations and subsidized housing, but the income limits for most programs make it difficult because applicants have to be making a percentage of the local median income to prove that they can keep up rental payments after the assistance ends, and the local median income is incredibly high.
